Promoting Voluntaryism: Education Choice, Parental Autonomy, and Less Government Interference in Education

  • Essentially, my political positions, and the education policies I promote, are based on the nonaggression principle; that no one should threaten, force or commit violence ("aggress") against another man's person, rights or property.  Therefore, I favor policies that promote voluntaryism, individualism and personal freedom, while opposing those that restrict those same rights and freedoms.

Like our Anti-Federalist Founders Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson, I’m suspicious of and oppose a centralized government interfering in my personal, family, and business decisions.  Along with bullies, gang members and warlords, governments are often the perpetrators of aggressive acts against individuals and groups.  This is why I advocate for individuals to be left alone as private citizens to live their lives, pursue their own interests, freely trade with others, and organize into voluntary associations as they see fit, as long as they do not harm (aggress) another. Therefore:

    • We should seek to substantially reduce the size and intrusiveness of government and cut and eliminate taxes at every opportunity; and
    • Peaceful, honest individuals should be able to offer their goods and services to willing consumers without inappropriate interference from the government; and
    • Peaceful, honest individuals should decide for themselves how best to live their lives without fear of criminal or civil penalties, or spying by the government or any other entity not authorized by the individual.  In addition, the individual should own all their own electronic data; and
    • What role government is to play should be limited to establishing the minimum number of laws that protect our freedoms, and to operate the courts and agencies that enforce those laws as determined by a local group of citizens who voluntarily create such a legal system.

In summary, the only legitimate responsibility of government is to protect our individual liberties as described in the Bill of Rights.   A secondary role of government is to protect us from foreign enemies who seek to do us harm.  Any other role of government is for a local group of citizens to determine.
